The poem “Abendlied” (Evening Song) by Matthias Claudius, first published in 1779, inspired many composers to set it to a melody. The version best known in German speaking countries is the one by Abraham Peter Schultz, first published in 1790, which I took the melody from and gave it a new arrangement.
